What are you doing in 10 minutes, 10 months and 10 years from now?
10 minutes: Seeing patients. 10 months: At a cottage with my family. 10 years: That's a tough one. I hope to be happily married again and have my kids happy and healthy. I would love to have had advanced my academic career, which would lead to more teaching, traveling and lectures. I hope to still have my skin care line moving forward with some success. It's been a dream of mine to write a book on sensitive skin, a passion of mine academically. Finally, I am not sure whether I will still have my busy general dermatology practice?it will depend on other areas of my life.
Who inspires/inspired you? Many people, patients, friends, my parents, my mentors. I am inspired by individuals who find what they love in live and do it with abandonment, whether that is be being a parent, CEO, fashionista or astronaut. Too many people do things for the wrong reasons, fame, fortune, recognition and when they get there they realize its not all that. To be happy doing something you love inspires me.
Who do you want to inspire? Lately I have had young girls tell me I inspire them. I have always thought it is important to lead by example. Mistake is just another name for experience. I have always worked very hard, and tried to do my best with a high moral ethic. If people see this and it inspires them then you have done well in your life. The most important job I have is that of a mother to three boys. My hope is that I inspire them to be passionate and curious about whatever it is they do in their life, that they do it for the right reasons- for fulfillment and that they always do it with the highest moral standard.
What do you love about yourself? I feel very privileged to be a doctor and mother. Not everyone is so blessed. I love that I have and can do both? oh and I like being tall :-) What would you change about yourself? I am too nice?so I am told.
What is your biggest regret? I lost my mom early in her life. I think we don't know what we have sometimes until its gone. I would have spent more time with her, as we all should with our parents. Life is not that busy.
What is your idea of the perfect day and who would you share it with? Traveling somewhere exotic and adventurous with my boys and extended family, experiencing a new culture and activity.
What are 3 words your best friends would use to describe you? Hard working, kind and honest.
What talent would you like to have most? The ability to laugh at myself.
What can't you live without? My three boys.
What 5 words would you pass on to anyone listening? Don't be afraid to fail.
If you could live in one place where would it be and why? Canada, because it is the best country in the world.
