30 Years Later: ESSIE Remains a Nail Polish Queen

We take you back to 1981 where, if you can believe it, only 5-6 nail shades existed. And there were no nail salons! Good thing we can't remember that far back and good thing that it is the past. It was in 1981, that Essie Weingarten, as a fashion buying and merchandising graduate, saw an industry where one did not exist and launched essie.
With 12 colours in hand Essie headed to Vegas and went door to door to every beauty parlor on the strip. 30 years later, essie is still one of the most popular nail polish brands in the world. As an aside, 3 of the original 12 colours Essie went to Vegas with are still in the collection today: Blanc, Bordeaux and Baby's Breath. To celebrate, Essie has put together a collection of her favourite colours from the past 30 years and over 700 colours.

Ballet Slippers - Born in 1982A colour Her Majesty the Queen of England has worn and a colour born from a memory that Essie had when she was young where upon finishing her ballet class, if she was good, her mother would take her for a manicure.
Clam Bake - Born in 2004An homage to the American clam bake this orange red is the perfect colour to remind of beachy summer days.
Licorice - Born in 1982This colour was first on the market in terms of dark nail colours. It also preceded another famous brand's dark vampy colour.
Really Red - Born in 1981It's really really red. Born in essie's first year of business.
Smokin' Hot - Born in 2010A creamy gunmetal greige. This colour has achieved cult status as it was sold out as soon as it hit the shelves.
