 An import! A bit of a nomad, actually: I was born in Denmark, moved to Sweden as a teenager, ran off to work in Africa (where I met my future husband), studied business and medicine in London, England and was lured to Canada by my now husband, a native Montrealer.
Curiously, a lot of our clients tell us they were never into jewellery before MICALLA. I think they are attracted to our collection because it is visually interesting and different, yet totally wearable.
Do You Remember the Day You Decided to Design?
I think a love of design is genetically built into every Dane so I can't remember a time when I wasn't creating something. However, I started designing jewellery while accompanying a friend to her oncology treatments as a way for us to pass the time together. At my first sale, when weeks of work sold out in less than two hours, I thought I might be on to something. The Breakthrough - Has it Happened?Yes, although we feel like we're achieving new things everyday. You Might Not Know This While I normally love all growing things, I have never seen an olive that didn't make me gag.
