BIO
I [Kirk Pickersgill] was born in Jamaica. My parents moved, to a Toronto suburb, when I was one. Fashion quickly became one of the driving forces in my life. After high school, I pursued an internship with Comrags and soon after traveled to Milan to work with Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared2 and Neil Barett. Upon my return to Toronto, Stephen and I did what we had always dreamed of doing, designing our own collection.
Because our collection reflects people's way of life. They exude a comfort but always with an elegance which make them perfect for urban living. They also reflect a new modern perspective on fashion.
Do You Remember the Day You Decided to Design?
Actually, I have always wanted to be a designer and there have been many sources of inspiration which guided me through my career. My mother probably has been my first inspiration. She always has a very feminine appeal.
The Breakthrough
To a certain extent, yes, but it's still going on. We retail in three Holt Renfrew stores and at Harrods. We've received mentions and editorials in Vogue, British Vogue, FASHION, FLARE, and ELLE Canada, as well as features on Fashion Television. With the launch of Greta Constantine PRIMER, we look forward to seeing how we can continue to grow, develop, and expand our market.
You Might Not Know This
I lived in Italy for 14 years and I still feel the jet lag. I wake up at 5 o'clock every single morning.
What's Your Fashion Tip Black will never go out of fashion.
The Current Collection
I have various sources of inspiration as music, people I cross in the street, my own imagination. For Primer, I have been inspirited by basics. A natural and fresh beautiful girl who wants to feel comfortable without looking comfortable.
'We are inspired by a world in constant transition,' explain Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong of Greta Constantine. 'The pace with which we are confronted by new ideas demands daily adaptation.'
Primer is Greta Constantine's capsule collection that is available at TNT Toronto. Greta Constantine is available at Holt Renfrew, Harrods.
