This is the most frustrating of skin types. You have oily patches on parts of your face and dry patches on other parts of your face. So what do you do? Treat the condition that bothers you the most. So if it is the oil and shine, then treat this first. With this skin type always purchase gentle non aggressive products. Follow this skin care routine for healthier combination skin:
Step 1 - Cleanse
For Oily issues - use a gel or oil cleanser, morning and night. This is the most important step in removing bacteria that cause blemishes.
TIP: If your skin is left taught then your cleanser is too harsh/drying and your skin will secrete more oil to compensate.
For Dry issues - use a milky cleanser, morning and night.
Step 2 - Treatment
See sections on Fine Lines & Wrinkles, Under Eye Puffiness/Bags, etc. under Specific Concern.
Step 3 - Hydrate/Moisturize
Oily Skin Issues - use a lightweight lotion or cream, morning and night. Look for non-comeodogenic formulation.
Dry Skin Issues - use an intense moisture treatment. Use a medium to heavy formulation in a cream form. Moisturize throughout the day to reapply the barrier for protection of the skin and to prevent moisture loss.
TIP: Moisturizers, for dry skin acts as a barriers, so it is most important that this is placed on the skin after your treatment as may prevent absorption of your treatment if put on first.
Step 4 - Sunscreen
Use a minimum SPF 15 or greater with a broad spectrum UVA/UVB formulation.
For Oily Areas - once or twice a week use a clay based mask to remove oil and dirt and bring back the colour in the skin.
For Dry Areas - use a moisture mask (which really isn't a mask but an intense moisture cream that you put on and wipe off).
